The weekend is definitely starting with a bang – Anurag Kashyap’s much awaited and highly ambitious crime drama, ‘Bombay Velvet’ hits screens today. Starring talented duo Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, excitement and expectations from this new onscreen jodi is sky-high.
Set in beautiful and glamourous Bombay of the 60s, ‘Bombay Velvet’ tells the tale of a street fighter who aspires to become a big shot, while exploring his volatile and very passionate romance with Rosie, the beautiful jazz singer.
Not only are we being treated to a fresh onscreen pair, but the villain, played by filmmaker Karan Johar is quite exciting. This is the first time we see Karan playing a full-fledged role.
Being an Anurag Kashyap directorial venture, ‘Bombay Velvet’ promises to be gritty and maniac, with just the right amount of violence, since Ranbir plays Balraj, the fighter.
And of course this film is sure to have a special meaning for people of Mumbai city. The makers have painstakingly recreated the city of the 60s with its captivating retro vibe.
Another plus point about ‘Bombay Velvet’ is the music. This is the first time old school jazz has been introduced in Bollywood cinema. Neeti Mohan, who has lent her voice to most of the songs, has done an absolute fabulous job.
