Earthquake: Nitish assures support to locals in Patna

Patna, Apr. 26 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday assured his government's support to the locals, who have taken shelter in various parks and grounds in Patna due to the fear of earthquake.
The Bihar Chief Minister, who made rounds of the various parks today, later said there is no need to fear because the aftershocks are not that powerful.
"The epicentre of the earthquake is in the Himalayas. Whenever a massive earthquake occurs, there are shock waves which are felt afterwards. But there is no need to fear because aftershocks are not that powerful. But we have to take all the precautions," Kumar told mediapersons.
"People are coming to these grounds, so there should be arrangements for water and electricity here. I have come here to make sure that such arrangements are proper. I have asked people not to be afraid, but it is natural to be afraid after such an earthquake," he added.
The death toll from the devastating earthquake, which hit Nepal and northern parts of India on Saturday, climbed over 2,100 even as the rescue efforts intensified in search of survivors in the Himalayan nation's worst temblor in over 80 years.
Earlier in the day, a powerful 6.7-magnitude aftershock jolted Nepal and adjoining areas, triggering panic among the people.
The massive earthquake and the aftershocks left behind a trail of death and destruction in Nepal's capital Kathmandu.
