Samsung to unveil tablet with iris recognition

Samsung to unveil tablet with iris recognition
It looks like Samsung is working on a new version of its Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet that supports iris recognition.

California (US)-based Stanford Research Institute (SRI), has issued a press informing that it has exclusively licensed its Iris on the Move (IOM) technologies to Samsung for use in Samsung mobile products. Additionally SRI has inked a supply agreement to start production and sales of the IOM technology-embedded Samsung mobile products for enterprise and business to business (b2b) applications.

It said the first product under the agreement will be a customized Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet with a built-in IOM iris module. The tablet will debut at SIA New Product Showcase at ISC West 2015 (a security industry trade show in the US) and will be offered worldwide through SRI partners and resellers.

SRI claims that the purely iris-based solution is more than 1,000 times more accurate than published fingerprint data, as per some tests.

While there have always been rumours about Samsung's flagship smartphones sporting iris scanners, so far the company has hesitated from including the feature. It would be interesting to see if Samsung would include it in the Galaxy Note 5 now that it has finalised an agreement with SRI.
