Of yoga, an old tune, a healing touch: Kejriwal's naturopathy session

Arvind Kejrival
If the photos and videos emerging from the Jindal Naturecure Institute in Bengaluru are anything to go by, the internecine warfare within the Aam Aadmi Party appear to be very far Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's mind.

At least till he returns to Delhi on Monday from the naturopathy institute where he checked in with his parents on March 5.

So over the past few days, we have been treated to photos of Kejriwal, clad in a white kurta-pyjama, in various yoga asanas on the peaceful lawns of the Jindal Naturecure Institute. There’s also a photo of a relaxed Kejriwal lounging in a cane chair, possibly recovering from the long sessions of yoga.

There’s even a photo of him cleaning out his nose, possibly as part of the treatment to deal with his chronic trademark cough. (Not that too many people would possibly have been interested in such photos of the chief minister.

And we have had further evidence of Kejriwal’s singing abilities, which first came to light at his swearing-in, when he sang a tune from an old Bollywood film. A video that has emerged of a meeting on March 8 between Kejriwal and other people at the naturopathy institute has him banging out the tune “Yehi Paigham Hamara” from the 1959 film “Paigham”.

Kejriwal, who hasn’t tweeted for the past 12 days, also referred to the problems within AAP during the meeting. In the video, he can be heard saying that he fights with other AAP leaders who want the party to expand its base to other states.

“I fight a lot in my party when people say ‘we have won Delhi, we can win elsewhere too’. I am not Napoleon who has entered (the arena) to win. I want to change the system,” he said.

“We have to move forward. If we present Delhi as a model, this will give birth to a new type of politics in the country. On this issue, I fight a lot within the party…We have to give a good government and system to Delhi. If Delhi changes, I expect the country will change too,” he said.

Over the past few days, the AAP has been rocked by controversies and infighting over the expulsion of senior leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav from the top decision-making body.
The party has also been hit by the emergence of two audio tapes – one that purportedly features Kejriwal talking about poaching Congress legislators to form government in Delhi last year, and another in which he purportedly talks about Muslims having no option but to vote for the AAP to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party.

The 46-year-old leader, who is diabetic, went to the Jindal Naturecure Institute to be treated for chronic cough and high blood sugar. Since he checked in, he has not used phones, watched television nor read newspapers, doctors at the institute said.
