NH10 music review: Kanika Kapoor’s Chhil Gaye Naina is the highlight of Anushka Sharma’s road film!

Music: Sanjeev Darshan, Bann Chakraborty, Ayush Shrestha, Savera Mehta, Bann Chakraborty and Samira Koppikar

Lyrics: Bann Chakraborty, Abhiruchi Chand, Varun Grover, Neeraj Rajawat, Manoj Tapadia, Kumaar

Singers: Kanika Kapoor, Dipanshu Pandit, Mohit Chauhan, Nayantara Bhatkal, Savera Mehta, Neeti Mohan, Samira Koppikar, Shilpa Rao, Rachel Varghese and Arijit Singh

Starring Anushka Sharma and Neil Bhoopalam in the lead, NH10 is a road flick directed by Navdeep Singh which is slated to release this Friday. Apart from playing the female protagonist, Ms Sharma has turned producer with this film and it seems she has got something very interesting in store for all the movie buffs. While the dark and intriguing trailer of NH10 received positive response from the masses, lets check if the makers have come with an equally dumdaar music album or not…
Chhil Gaye Naina: Sung by the very talented Kanika Kapoor and Dipanshu Pandit, Chhil Gaye Naina is an electrifying number which will get you hooked from the word go. The lyrics are hard-hitting and the music is even more powerful making this track a must hear. While music composer duo Sanjeev-Darshan have done a mighty job with the background score which is very urban yet desi, its the Baby doll fame singer who walks away with the cake courtesy her dumdaar voice. Also, the music has a very rock feel to it which is indeed refreshing. This one certainly deserves to be on your playlist!
Le Chal Mujhe: This one is crooned by Mohit Chauhan and he has done complete justice to this not-so typical Bollywood number which is slow and more like old school jazz number. While Chauhan’s voice is dreamy and beautiful, Le Chal Mujhe won’t appeal to you if you love romantic songs and the ones which are high on energy. Of course if you’re a Mohit Chauhan fan than you would hear this one for him but otherwise chances are you won’t listen this track till the very end. Well, if you give it time then who knows maybe Le Chal Mujhe will slowly grow on to you. So it wouldn’t hurt at all if you hear this song at least once. There is a female version too which is sung by Shilpa Rao and its decent. Arijit Singh on the other hand has sung the reprise version which is soothing to the ears as well. But why so many versions of one song, is something I fail to understand.
Main Jo: Again, Main Jo which is sung by Nayantara Bhatkal and Savera Mehta, isn’t a typical Bollywood romantic number. Though the track has quirky, fresh tune, it has been composed and sung in a not-so filmy way. But if liked Anushka’s Chaar Kadam song from PK then chances are you’ll end up liking this one too. But overall, I found Main Jo comparatively okay. Yes, it has been executed in a unique manner but somehow this song just didn’t manage to hold my attention for long.
Khoney De: Mohit Chauhan and Neeti Mohan have lent their voice for this song which is just another version of Le Chal Mujhe. However, this one is more dramatic and powerful than the male version which is sung by Chauhan himself. But apart from that and the lyrics, there is hardly any difference between Khoney De and Le Chal Mujhe. In fact, I liked this version more because of Mohit and Neeti’s collaboration. The two have sung their parts really well and in sync.
Maati Ka Palang: Sung by Samira Koppikar, Maati Ka Palang is the surprise package. The lyrics of this track are absolutely beautiful and Samira has crooned it even more beautifully with her soulful voice. Just like Chill Gaye Naina, this one too has a rock feel to it which only makes this desi number more edgy and intriguing. Overall, I loved the treatment given to this song and way it been composed and sung by Samira Koppikar.
Kya Karein: This soulful track is sung by Rachel Varghese and its an absolute treat to the ears that is if you love slow and meaningful numbers. The music composer duo Savera Mehta and Ayush Shrestha have paid attention to every detail as far as music is concerned. However, you need patience to get through this one. Its not your regular upbeat, peppy or for that matter a slow romantic number. This one is more about music than lyrics and that’s something which most of us aren’t us to.
Verdict: Well, NH10 has some real good songs which will appeal to most of the music lovers. However, the fact that the album is unconventional and not very Bollywoodish may not work in its favour. But for me it did work to an extent!
Our pick: Chhil Gaye Naina, Maati Ka Palang and Khoney De that too in the same order.
