Apple refreshes MacBook Air, cuts prices by Rs 2,000

NEW DELHI: Apple has silently updated its MacBook Air notebooks with latest Intel 4th generation (Haswell) processors. The Cupertino giant has also reduced the price of all models of MacBook Air by Rs 2,000 in India and $100 in US.

The 11-inch and 13-inch base models of the MacBook Air now feature a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz) and are priced at Rs 65,900 ($899 in US) and Rs 72,900 ($999 in US), respectively. The previous iteration featured 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz).

The 256GB variants of MacBook Air have also received a Rs 2,000 price cut in India, and $100 price cut in US. The 11-inch 256GB variant of the MacBook now costs Rs 79,900, while the 13-inch 256GB variant costs Rs 86,900.

Other than the bump in processing power, Apple has not made any changes to the MacBook Air products. All models feature 4GB RAM, 720p FaceTime HD camera, and come with dual-microphones and the faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi or Gigabit Wi-Fi. The models feature two USB 3.0 ports and 1 Thunderbolt port. The 13-inch MacBook Air models also sport a SDXC card slot.

Apple had first unveiled the Haswell powered MacBook Air models in June 2013 at its WWDC event. The major highlight of these models was the battery life, with the 11-inch models claiming to deliver up to 9 hours backup, and the 13-inch MacBook Airs claiming to offer 12 hours of battery life.
