The entry-level SUV from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has been designed for global markets. The little vehicle will ride on the same stretched chassis that will carry Fiat’s upcoming 500X mini-crossover. Both vehicles will be built by the Fiat factory in Melfi, Italy.
The Renegade replaces the Jeep Compass and Patriot SUVs but is about 7 inches shorter than those models. Styled to resemble the larger Jeep Wrangler, the front-drive SUV (four-wheel drive is optional) offers a long list of off-road capabilities, including hill-descent control, a 20:1 crawl ratio and the ability to ford 19 inches of water. The Renegade can tow as much as 3,300 lbs, according to Chrysler.

The SUV comes equipped with a Uconnect Access built-in cellular system that enables drivers to call emergency services at the push of a button without the need for their own cell phone. Extra features include touchscreen radio controls, a 7-inch color instrument display and the ability to receive and read text messages aloud.
Chrysler has not announced pricing for the Renegade, which will debut in Europe later this year.
