2 States makes 40 cr, biggest opener of 2014

Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer 2 States has hit jackpot. Produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala, the film is based on the bestselling novel by Chetan Bhagat ('2 States: The Story Of My Marriage). 

In spite of the IPL fever, this film has been declared the biggest hit of 2014 so far. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film's success,"#2States all set to cross $ 1 million mark in USA-Canada in opng wknd itself. BIGGEST OPENER of 2014 there. Writer Chetan Bhagat who was in an ecstatic mood also took to Twitter to post, "Kudos @abhivarman and his entire team | 2 States Emerges Biggest Hit Of 2014. 2 States opening wknd ~Rs40cr, similar to 3 Idiots opening wknd! Only this time, with debut director, upcoming actors! Miracles do happen."
The film raked in around Rs.12 crore on its opening day in the country. According to sources, the first day collection for the entertainer, directed by first-timer Abhishek Varman, is Rs. 12.42 cr net. According to a report in IANS, talking about how the movie has fared so far, Amrita Pandey, vice president and head of marketing and distribution, Studios - Disney India, said: "2 States had a phenomenal jump start right from morning shows on Friday all over the country and across all centres. Many cinemas were running to packed capacities, and added shows on the first day itself. The movie is geared for a great run. In key international markets like North America, Australia and Britain, the movie was running to high occupancies and the opening day collections were great."
Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines, said: "The film is doing very good business at the box office. It has gone beyond expectations. The film has collected close to Rs.12 crore on Friday. It is great and its almost going housefull on many theatres today (Saturday)." Sanjay Ghai from Mukta Arts said: "The film is going housefull, and that is commendable. With out having any Khans or A-listers, the film has managed to pull maximum crowd." "The film collected Rs.2.25 crore on Friday from Delhi, and all over India, it's business was close to Rs.12 to Rs.13 crore."
Alia Bhatt too could not hide her excitement post the film's release, considering her last film Highway did not fare too well at the Box Office. She tweeted, " Thank you all for all the love !!!!!! Soo overwhelmed with the response to #2states !!! We do this for you and just you .. Thank you #1love."

The movie was released in nearly 2,400 screens worldwide. In India, "2 States" released in over 2,000 screens and internationally, it released in close to 350 screens in 30 countries.

According to a report in koimoi, ​the film's opening weekend stands around the 38 crore mark, which is a great boost to Alia and Arjun's career.
