The next time you're hungry, chop up some fresh fruit in your pancake. Use fresh apples, peaches, strawberries, cherries or even mangoes.

It can do away with the sugar fix while providing apt nutrients and vitamins. Sprinkle them with a dash of cinnamon and have some frozen yoghurt on the side or serve with vanilla ice cream.

What is a pancake?
A pancake is flat thin, circular bread made from a batter and cooked on a hot griddle or frying pan. One can have several variations of this. It is a breakfast food but it can also be had at brunch or tea. Always serve it with syrups.

Should you use butter or oil?
While one can use both, it's a better idea to use unsalted butter over oil as the former imparts a great depth of flavour. Browned butter also has a nutty taste that goes very well with syrup. If you have to, then use a mix of butter and oil, but watch out as this could burn easily.

Choice of pancake syrups
Pancakes go best with syrup for that moist, sweet texture. You can use a variety of syrups. Here are some popular choices:

Maple: Sweet maple syrup is one of most commonly used. Drizzle some onto the pancake and top it with strawberries.

Honey-orange: Combine a cup of honey with orange juice (can add some zest). Heat it on a slow flame. Whisk while on the flame till the syrup thickens.

Cinnamon-apple: Take around two cups of apple juice and some cinnamon. Boil and reduce the mixture till it thickens. Remove the cinnamon and drizzle it on the ready pancakes. 

Peanut-butter: Combine 2 tablespoons peanut butter with half a cup of maple syrup or orange with honey. Heat and whisk this.

Remember: To make the syrups last, keep them in the refrigerator
