News:Don't disqualify me because I'm P Chidambaram's son, says Karti

Chennai: In yet another example of dynasty politics this election, Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram will fight the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress released its fourth list of Lok Sabha candidates on Thursday night and announced Karti's candidature from Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu from where his father is the sitting MP.
Chidambaram had stated that he did not want to contest the polls despite Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi asking senior leaders to do so.
While many may feel that Chidambaram not contesting polls may hit the Congress, Karti Chidambaram has said that it is wrong to disqualify him, stating he has been working hard for the Congress. "You can't pick me because I'm Chidambaram's son, but at the same time you can't disqualify me because I am Chidambaram's son. I have been working with the party since 1996 and I have been giving my best to the party," Karti said after his candidature was announced.
He also said that he was confident of the Congress doing well from his constituency. "The Congress unit in Sivaganga is very strong. It is the strongest unit in Tamil Nadu. We are confident about the elections," he said.
He also said that P Chidambaram wanted to now concentrate only on party work as he had fought enough elections. "My father has fought enough elections. That is why he has decided to stick to party work," he added.
Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games scam accused Surensh Kalmadi has been denied a ticket. He has now hinted at the possiblity of contesting as an Independent from Pune. Other names that were announced are Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who will contest from Udhampur while Mani Shankar Aiyar will be fielded from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu.
