Samsung Galaxy Gear S to Use Tizen Operating System, Cost Around Rs 29,000 in India

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is a different sort of smartwatch. It launched before all of the other smartwatches launched earlier this past fall, but Samsung still brought a Samsung Galaxy Gear S to the IFA show in Berlin that recently happened. Many smartwatches are more like a watch that has to be paired with a smartphone to be useful instead of their own device.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear S is different in that you don’t need a smartphone for it to be functional, it comes with its own 3G radio and GPS, which means it can send a receive signals all on its own. Without a smartphone, many other smartwatches are useless, with most of the hardware makers preferring to have the watch act as a dummy device for the phone.
Most of the information is simply relayed to the watch from the phone. With the Samsung Galaxy Gear S, it is a completely standalone device. One thing that has reviewers worried though is that the device may not have a long-lasting battery. Even more so than with smartphones, users who buy smartwatches expect their device to last at least a day or two without having to be recharged at all. (Picture: Archive)
Samsung Gear 2 Neo Review
By including a 3G radio and GPS, the Samsung Galaxy Gear S might not be able to go a full day without needing to be recharged. GPS especially is known to drain the battery on smartphones, so it could be a cause for concern. The other major difference between the Samsung Galaxy Gear S and other smartwatches is that it’s not running iOS or Android.
It’s running an operating system called Tizen, which is based off of Linux, but isn’t compatible with apps made for the Android operating system (which is also based off of Linux). This means that many users may find that their favorite apps could be missing even though Samsung as said that the device will come with the ability to download more than 1000 apps. The Samsung Galaxy Gear S will launch in India for the price of Rs 29,000.
