Yuvraj admits playing away from India has helped

Yuvraj admits playing away from India has helped

New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh admitted that it was a relief that his first game in the Pepsi Indian Premier League 2014 was away from India, given the volume of criticism he was subjected to after his failure in the ICC World Twenty20 final against Sri Lanka in Dhaka earlier this month.

"I am glad it (the first phase of IPL) is out of India," he told the media conference after helping Royal Challengers Bangalore secure a comfortable eight-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils on Thursday night. "I could focus on my game and stay away from all the distractions, come here and contribute to RCB." Yuvraj told IPLT20.com.

Yuvraj Singh, who made 10 off 21 balls in the ICC World Twenty20 final and made an unbeaten 52 off 29 balls (three fours and five sixes) on Thursday, also admitted to being disappointed that he could not contribute in the final in Dhaka but pointed out that the Sri Lankan bowlers deserved credit too.

"Obviously I needed to get some rhythm. I just thought I needed to play the way I do," he said about his tentative start against DD paceman Mohammed Shami. "There is a lot of relief in the team when you know that batsmen like AB de Villiers and Albie Morkel are to come in next. I could go there are play freely."

"I share a good relationship with (RCB captain) Virat Kohli both on and off the field. He and Zaheer Khan told me that RCB is the place where I could express myself without having to worry about batting till the end innings since there are so many dynamic players here," he said.

"Virat has been in great form and I enjoy batting with him. It was important for me to get those runs on the board tonight and feel good about how I hit the ball," Yuvraj said. "I have started well and hope that I will continue that by batting to the best of my ability."
